Public Day – The first Sunday of every month 8:00AM – 1:00PM (Revised August 9, 2023)

MAKE SURE that every participant in your party knows and understands the following rules and procedures.
SCGAA hosts a Public Day on the first Sunday of every month. Public Day is free to all safe shooters and runs from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Self-supplied safety glasses and hearing protection must be worn by all participants. Before attending Public Day, make sure to familiarize yourself and all others in your party with the Public Day Range Rules, below.
NOTE: All visitors are responsible for understanding and practicing the following safety regulations while on this Range. If you have a question, please ask a Range Safety Officer.
The SCGAA ranges are open for public operations on Public Day starting with check-in at the gate at 8:00AM. Last shot fired at 12:00PM (noon). All shooters/visitors must be off the SCGAA property by 1:00PM.
All firing sessions will be preceded by a safety briefing and additional information will be provided at such times.
Only individuals that may legally own/possess firearms in the State of Florida are allowed to enter SCGAA property. (3.B) No pets are allowed unless they are service animals and must be controlled. (8.14)
No weapons regulated under the National Fire Arms Act of 1964 (NFA) are allowed. SCGAA Duty Range Safety Officers may restrict the use of any firearms, ammunition type or range operations at any time. (9.2.6)
The following weapons are regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA):
1. A shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
2. A weapon made from a shotgun if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length;
3. A rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
4. A weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length;
5. Any other weapon, as defined in subsection (e);
6. A machinegun;
7. Any silencer (as defined in section 921 of title 18, United States Code); and
8. A destructive device.
Safety Overview
Personal eye and ear protection are required in designated areas of the SCGAA property. (6.2)
No holstered firearms (open carry) permitted on Public Day. (16.2)
Firing of concealed weapons of any type is not allowed. (8.24)
No tracers, Tannerite, incendiary, explosive or other projectiles carrying any form of active components will be permitted for use on SCGAA property. (8.4)
Absolutely no armor piercing rounds to be fired at the metal targets. (9.4.3)
When a firearm is not actively being used, it must be made safe: unloaded, action open (or blocked), and the magazine removed. (3.3)
When moving with a firearm, keep it pointed straight up, unless it is made safe and in a case. (1.3)
Keep all firearms pointed down range while on the firing line. (1.2)
Do not go forward of the firing line until instructed to do so on Cold Range only. (6.1)
Do not handle any firearm or ammunition while anyone is down range. (6.1.2)
It is the shooter’s responsibility to furnish all targets. It is the shooter’s responsibility to ensure targets being used are not of a material which might promote or generate ricochets or fires. (9.2.2 & 10.2)
No political targets will be allowed. No shooter will be allowed to post a photograph or likeness of any individual person as a target. (8.20)
Targets must be set-up as directed by the Range Safety Officers. After returning from target set-up, shooters must stand behind the red line and wait for further instruction from a Range Safety Officer. (6.1)
Only one firearm per shooter is allowed on the firing line at a time.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your firearm is aimed at the target. (2.0)
All rounds must be fired from designated firing points as defined for each range. (8.5 & 8.6)
No shots will be fired from tactical positions. (8.7)
All rounds must be fired in a manner such that they strike the impact berms. Shooters should aim their shots to hit in the middle third of the berm to prevent ricochets. (8.8)
Rounds must not be fired into the ground or over the impact berms or over the SIDE berms. (8.8)
Center-fire rifle and shotgun shooting are permitted on the Pistol Range left side only at 25 and 50 yards for initial sighting-in purposes only. Center-fire sighting shots are a maximum of twenty (20). (9.3.3)
Shotgun shooting on the Pistol Range left side is limited to three (3) rounds of slug type only. No shotgun shots of any other kind allowed. (9.3.3). No Damascus barrels are to be used on SCGAA property. (14.1).
Rim-fire rifles are allowed at the 25- and 50-yard distances. (9.3.3)
Juniors (age 17 and under) MUST be supervised by a non-shooting adult at ALL times (8.13)
Only slow fire is permitted, except on the PLINKING RANGE (10.8)
Quick draw firing is not permitted (8.24)
If you have a problem on the firing line, keep your firearm pointed downrange and raise your hand, a Range Safety Officer will be glad to help you
Shooters are required to clean up their brass, trash and used targets and deposit in the proper containers. (8.17)
No one is allowed on the berms and pond (8.9 and 8.15)
There will be no use of SCGAA property for the purpose of profiteering (8.23)
SCGAA reserves the right to have anyone removed and trespassed from the property for inappropriate behavior. (18.1) SCGAA Duty Range Safety Officers have the final say in the use of the Range Facilities at all times. (24.0)
The speed limit is 15 mph on all range roads (8.16)
No photography of any type is permitted on Public Day between 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM unless prior approval is provided by the Board
